It’s taken a few decades from when the idea was first proposed to the emergence on a foggy Bega morning of two federal politicians to turn soil and kick off the work now starting on the Bega bypass by the newly appointed builder. The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese, and Dr Mike Kelly, Member for Eden-Monaro, took the engraved spades and set the $60m construction on its way. The 3.5 kilometre two lane bypass will re-route the Princes Highway from the southern end of the Bega River bridge on the north side of the Bega town centre, to Finucane Lane south of Bega.
