For the last couple of years the community of Eden has been trying in vain to save a valuable icon of its disappearing heritage. The Hotel Australasia was built in 1906 at a time when the new nation of Australia was flush with dreams of opportunity. A century later the town is now likely to see that optimistic spirit of nation building demolished to make way for a supermarket.
